Does your skin go through seasons of change?  Though I live in a tropical climate with no seasonal changes, I sometimes experience bouts of flare-ups or break-outs for no apparent reason at all.  For the most part of this year, I’ve been enjoying super skin, but about 2 months ago I started breaking out.  Initially I assumed it was the pollutive haze [please sign the petition at xthehaze.org and help us end this madness!] and spending less time indoors in an air-conditioned office.  So I switched out my skincare and doubled up on deep cleansing, but the break outs just kept getting worse. The anti-blemish spot treatments I applied turned my skin patchy red and flakey.  I was feeling utterly miserable until I finally broke open my jar of Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream.  At the same time, I started using the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder, and would love to introduce both to you today!

Tatcha Indigo Collection

Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream is the latest addition to Tatcha’s Indigo collection.  I had tried out the Soothing Silk Hand Cream and Body Butter when the range was first released last year, and loved both of them [reviewed here].  At the center of this collection is the Japanese Indigo plant.  It is a rich source of flavonoids which is an antioxidant useful for protecting against environmental stresses.  Furthermore, it is known to be helpful for atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.

In addition to Indigo extract, Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream is also formulated with 3% Colloidal Oatmeal.  This is one of the highest concentrations of colloidal oatmeal available in such moisturising creams, and has the ability of soothing all kinds of skin ailments such as eczema, psoriasis, even acne.  Oats are rich in beta-glucans, which are polysaccharides that can reduce skin inflammation, activate immune cells in the skin and stimulate collagen deposition, and therefore have anti-aging benefits.  The inclusion of Sophora Japonica Flower Extract further boosts the anti-irritant, anti-oxidant, and anti-aging powers of this cream.  For a full list of ingredients, please refer here.

For all its power-packed ingredients, the Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream still manages to retain a lightweight silky texture.  Though it looks indigo when swatched, the cream blends out and is completely absorbed instantly, leaving no stain on the skin.  In its place, skin feels perfectly moisturised and well nourished.  I was completely amazed by this nifty cream as within the very first use, my dry irritated patches had eased up considerably overnight, and all my pimples miraculously dissipated after three days!  It took another week of use for the red patches to be completely alleviated, but soon enough my skin was returned to its soft and clear condition.

So often with creams that are intended to soothe or accelerate healing, they excel in just that sole purpose and lack any other visible benefits.  As such, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Tatcha Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream actually provided visible firming and lifting effects for my skin too!

Tatcha has brought back the Japanese tradition of using powder facial cleansers and made it part of the brand’s core unique offerings. There are 4 variants to choose from, and the latest Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder is designed for sensitive skin though I feel it would be perfect for just about anybody.  The design of the bottle took me a moment to understand but once I figured it out it is simply brilliant.  The powder is kept safely dry and fresh within the sealed bottle, and there is only a small hole from which you may pour the powder out.  This dispensing hole is protected by a sliding cover which stays in place (whether open or shut) when the bottle is tipped.

To use, simply pour about half a heaped teaspoonful onto your hand and mix some water to lather it up.  Thereafter, massage it over the entire face, avoiding the eyes, and rinse off with water.  I use this about once or twice a week, usually in the evenings, in place of my regular foaming cleanser after first removing my makeup with an oil cleanser.  This Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder contains colloidal oatmeal and indigo extract, so it doubles up as a soothing pack.  Simply use more powder and less water to create a paste and leave it over sensitized patches for a few minutes before rinsing off.

I’m not afraid of physical exfoliants, in fact I generally prefer them over chemical exfoliants.  However, it is important to use very fine and smooth exfoliants, and Tatcha’s Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder is the gentlest exfoliant I’ve ever tried.  I do have to point out that it contains Potassium Myristate which may be drying and irritating for some, though I didn’t experience that myself.  Instead, it left my skin feeling baby soft and incredibly smooth.  For a full list of ingredients please refer here.

Overall, I’m loving these 2 latest additions to Tatcha’s Indigo Collection.  The Indigo Soothing Triple Recovery Cream in particular has been a real saver for my skin’s unexpected flare-up recently, and I highly recommend this to anybody who is prone to eczema or bouts of sensitivity.  The Indigo Soothing Rice Enzyme Powder is one of the finest and gentlest physical exfoliating wash I’ve ever tried and would be perfect for those who are afraid of harsh exfoliants.
