It has taken me years to learn this for myself, but I have come to the realisation that not all skincare, no matter how good, is meant for everybody.  Towards my late 20s, I started thinking about anti-aging skincare, after all, it is about prevention.  But when your skin is still relatively healthy, you are not going to see those massive improvements that the uber luxury creams and potions promise.  There is a limit to how much firmer or bouncier your skin can be.

And so it was, when I first tried the Lancome Absolue skincare range, I went straight for the Absolue L’Extrait and then left it aside feeling rather disappointed.  Five years later, I started a trial of the newly released Lancôme Absolue Revitalising Care Silky Cream with a healthy dose of cynicism.  This time, I surprised myself.

Lancome Absolue Revitalizing Care

At the heart of the Lancome Absolue Revitalizing Care series is the Lancôme Rose®.  This is a hybrid rose that was specially created for Armand Petitjean, the founder of Lancôme.  It is the result of a complex hybridisation process amongst 20,000 candidates, and deemed the ideal rose for its delicate, streamlined beauty and rare resilience.  After 40 years’ research, Lancôme succeeded in extracting the native cells from the heart of the Lancôme Rose, and replicating those cells in order to harvest its regenerative power.  50 years after it was first released, Lancôme has made a new breakthrough with the Rosa damascena freeze distillate, and presents to us a brand new Absolue Revitalizing Care Silky Cream.Lancome Absolue Revitalizing Care Silky Cream

Rosa Damascena is highly prized for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.  Rose essential oil is excellent at moisturizing dry skin; has antiseptic and astringent properties able treat acneic skin; and anti-inflammatory properties to treat redness and inflammation.  It can be beneficial for controlling psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, and even heal wounds!

In order to create the Rosa damascena freeze distillate, each flower is painstakingly harvested by hand between May and June when the flowers are at their prime.  These are then put through a precise freeze distillation process to keep all the beneficial properties of the flower intact.  It takes about 3-5 tonnes of petals to distill 1 single drop of this precious essence, which has the ability to reduce inflammaging in skin cells, maintaining youthful qualities.  Furthermore, the Rosa damascena freeze distillate is able to encourage tissue repair, accelerating complete skin repair back to its original qualities.

What makes the new Lancôme Absolue Revitalizing Care Silky Cream so delectable, is its silky fine texture that melts into the skin leaving it velvety soft.  It feels incredibly lightweight, and gets absorbed into the skin right away, leaving no sense of oiliness.  This makes it really ideal for those who have dry skin and need something that wears well under makeup.  Furthermore, it has a beautiful floral fragrance comprising of the Lancôme rose, jasmine and freesia, softened by woody and musky notes.

I’ve been using the Lancôme Absolue Revitalizing Care Silky Cream mostly at night, particularly when I’m feeling tired and stressed out.  This is hands down the most amazingly scented cream I’ve ever tried, although if you are especially sensitive to fragrances, you may have to proceed with caution.  On the other hand, it feels very luxurious and relaxing.  Overnight, it helps to soothe and calm my stressed skin.  I wake to smoother skin, my irritated bumps are alleviated, and just generally happier skin!

Lancome Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm

It may sound extremely decadent, but ever since I’ve been wearing those long-wearing lip lacquers more often (several times a week!), my lips have taken a real beating.  At one point, they were peeling and cracking, and constantly feeling parched.  I’ve gone through several tubes of lip balms Dior Lip Glows and Guerlain KissKiss RoseLips, but nothing than outright vaseline helps.  And once I started on this Lancôme Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm, I was hooked!

Lancôme Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm comes in a convenient pocket-sized squeeze tube and a slanted applicator tip.  The balm itself is a melting rich texture, that goes on luxuriously, but does not leave my lips feeling caked with sludge.  It is enriched with acacia honey to deeply hydrate and rosehip seed oil to restore the lips moisture barrier.  It is sufficiently lightweight for the day time, just apply a thin layer at the start of your skincare, and by the time I’m done with my makeup, it is well absorbed and I can go right on to apply my lip stick!  At night I find myself reaching automatically for this even though I have several other rich lip balms, which shows how much I enjoy this!

A girl can never get enough of decadence, and these are definitely up there in the luxurious end of the spectrum.  But the right pampering at the right time can change your entire outlook in life.  I’m glad Lancôme has chosen to release its Absolue Revitalizing Care Silky Cream just when I needed it, and the Absolue Precious Cells Nourishing Lip Balm has grown into my favourite obsession.
