Happy New Year my friends! I hope the holiday season had been fruitful and rewarding for you. I’m really looking forward to 2017, and it is my sincerest wish for you to enjoy abundant blessings in the coming days – may your hearts be full, and your lives be filled with your hearts’ desires!
The new year marks a fresh start, and this year I’m hoping to take a new approach with my skincare. Last year, I battled with the onset of adult acne, and after several frustrated attempts to get things under control myself, I finally decided to engage professional help. Following the advice of Dr Gerard Ee at The Clifford Clinic, I decided to cut back on all the products that I was loading my skin with. More isn’t always better! Instead, I am now on a minimalist routine, with an emphasis on oil-free, simply-formulated products with maximum efficiency. And I am finally at a place where I am comfortable enough to declare my skin is better than ever! Of course, I still encounter the occasional woe, and for whatever ails that strike, I add on targeted solutions such as the new Bobbi Brown Remedies Collection.
Bobbi Brown’s latest skincare treat is inspired by her holistic approach to beauty, and comprises of 6 cocktails formulated from powerful natural ingredients. These are meant to form your own home apothecary of sorts, to be used individually or layered with your existing skincare and makeup, whenever you need. There is something for most common complexion issues – from dehydration to redness & irritation, dullness, pores & blemishes, chapped & cracked skin, even loss of elasticity.
Each of the Bobbi Brown Remedies are concentrated blends, and are sold individually in 14ml (17gm in the case of the Skin Salve) bottles priced at SGD66 each. There are 3 limited edition starter kits to celebrate the launch, and to tide you over the post-holiday blues. These are great value for money, and a wonderful way to experience half of the range at a fraction of the price of 1. The kit that I have here is the Recovery Rescue Kit, which comprises of the following:
- Skin Reviver No. 91 – contains a blend of green algae, kale, brussels sprouts and spinach. This contains a high concentration of antioxidants and essential nutrients to compete free radical damage and environmental aggressors. It energizes the skin, and is great for tired, stressed out skin.
- Skin Relief No. 80 – formulated with red algae complex and seaweed extracts to visibly reduce signs of irritation. This blend calms and soothes sensitive and reactive skin, and visibly reduces redness and irritations.
- Skin Salve No. 57 – is a restoring treatment containing shea butter, beeswax, turmeric and liquorice extracts. It acts as a “skin bandage” to protect severely irritated, dry or damaged skin, by enhancing the natural barrier of the skin. Very moisturising for extremely dry skin, and allows skin to heal naturally.
While messing around with my 4 year-old over the holidays, I got a horrible scratch near my lips; and after spending a whole day in the sun the scratch got infected. After a few days, the wound got all kinds of disgusting, and eventually scabbed over. As it was near my lips, it got very uncomfortable and as I slept or even just tried to open my mouth to eat or speak, the wound would crack, making it harder to heal. I turned to Skin Relief No. 80 to soothe the painful wound, and also layered Skin Salve No. 57 over to keep the skin moist and protect it from cracking further. I am currently in Day 7, and I wished I could say I’m completely healed, but at least I am glad to be relieved from the discomfort and I can definitely see it is healing (slowly but surely!).
Since it is winter in most parts of the world right now, and I am packing for a 2-week long trip to frozen Europe, I am reminded of this Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Nourishing Milk which was released over last fall. It took me a very long time to get around to trying this out because of my acne, but I finally picked it up recently after I returned from cold, blustery Shanghai with dry, chapped skin. At first swatch, I was intrigued because it had all the textural properties of milk, but goes on my skin like a face oil and gets absorbed right away leaving no oily trace behind.
This is a treat for dry and dehydrated skin, as it contains lots of soothing and emollient oils such as olive, sesame, sweet almond and jojoba oils. At the same time, lavender and patchouli oils are great for calming irritated skin. I love that it goes on great either as a serum or facial oil (used before moisturizer), and as a pre-makeup base. I was trying out a new matifying foundation recently and found that I needed my skin to be as moist as it can be, and this Bobbi Brown Extra Repair Nourishing Milk provided me with the skin softening and hydration properties that I badly needed. I also plan to layer it on as a night treatment when I travel!
I hope you find what you need to get your skin a boost this new year! Let’s all look forward to even better complexion in 2017!
